City of La Cañada Flintridge Opens Recruitment for Cornishon Corridor Joint Working Group
The City of La Cañada Flintridge and La Cañada Unified School District are recruiting community members interested in serving on the Cornishon Corridor Joint Working Group. Applications to fill five non-voting, at-large positions are open now through Thursday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.
The Cornishon Corridor Joint Working Group is a collaborative planning and visioning body that will explore opportunities and constraints and develop concept-level recommendations for the future of the Cornishon Corridor for consideration by the City Council and District Governing Board. The Cornishon Corridor area generally encompasses the Lanterman Auditorium, athletic fields and courts, the Community Center and other nearby public facilities and is bounded roughly by Foothill Boulevard and Atlee Avenue, from Chevy Chase Drive toward the flood control channel.
Working Group members will help evaluate the future of the Cornishon Corridor by studying the area’s opportunities and constraints, sharing community perspectives and developing concept recommendations for consideration by the City Council and La Cañada Unified School District Board. The group will focus on how the area can better serve students, residents and community organizations, with five at-large community members joining City and School District representatives.
“Collaborating with LCUSD on the Cornishon Corridor allows us to thoughtfully plan for the evolving needs of our students, families and residents,” said Mayor Jeanne Kim Hobson. “This Working Group will help identify new opportunities as the community works together to achieve a shared vision for the future.”
The City and District are seeking a range of perspectives and individuals who can contribute thoughtful ideas, relevant knowledge and an understanding of community needs. Areas of interest include nearby neighborhoods, youth sports, architecture and facility design, finance, senior activities and services, early childhood education and performing arts. Applicants are encouraged to describe their connection to the Cornishon Corridor and the perspective or experience they would bring. Members should be prepared to actively participate, consider a range of ideas and attend meetings. The Working Group is expected to meet monthly, with additional meetings as needed.
