Mosquito Prevention Tips
As the weather gets warmer in La Cañada Flintridge, mosquito activity increases. Residents are encouraged to help keep the community bite-free by making yards a no-fly zone.
Here are a few simple prevention tips:
- Dump and drain: Empty plant saucers, buckets, old tires and kids' toys at least once a week. It is also important to refresh birdbaths and outdoor pet bowls frequently.
- Screen check: Inspect window and door screens for tears or holes to keep bugs outside.
- Clear gutters: Ensure rain gutters are free of leaves and debris so water does not pool.
- Repel: When spending time outdoors, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, apply an EPA-registered insect repellent.
A quick sweep of outdoor spaces this week can make a significant difference!

Emergency Water Storage
Did you know? To be fully prepared for an emergency, it is recommended to store one gallon of water per person, per day, for at least seven days.
A major crisis could disrupt local water mains or compromise water safety for an extended period, making tap water unreliable.
A seven-day supply ensures enough water is available for the following needs:
- Hydration: Essential drinking water to maintain health.
- Sanitation: Basic hygiene, washing and light cleaning to prevent illness.
- Pets: Extra gallons must also be calculated for household animals.
The City encourages residents to check emergency water supplies this week to ensure readiness.
To learn more about disaster readiness, visit the City's Emergency Preparedness webpage.

Fireworks pose a serious risk of wildfires and severe injuries, while also creating noise disturbances for neighbors and frightening local pets. Any illegal firework activity should be reported directly to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station by calling (818) 248-3464.
The City encourages community members to enjoy a professional fireworks show or drone display in Los Angeles County. Stay tuned for 2026 shows by visiting LA County's Fireworks Safety webpage.
