The City of La Cañada Flintridge invites residents of all ages to attend its annual Community Preparedness Day on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Olberz Park (One Civic Center Drive). This year’s free, family-friendly event will focus on helping the community prepare for rain, flooding and other winter weather emergencies before the next major storm arrives.

Community Preparedness Day provides residents with practical information, hands-on activities and opportunities to connect with local public safety partners. Whether creating an emergency kit for the first time or updating an existing preparedness plan, attendees will leave with valuable resources and knowledge to help protect their families, homes and neighborhoods.

“Preparedness starts long before the emergency occurs,” said Mayor Jeanne Kim Hobson. “Community Preparedness Day gives residents the opportunity to learn simple, practical steps they can take now to better protect their families and homes. We encourage everyone to join us for an engaging evening focused on building a safer, more resilient community.”

Throughout the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about rain, flooding and winter storm preparedness
  • Meet local first responders and emergency personnel
  • Explore flood risks, evacuation planning and emergency alerts
  • Visit interactive exhibits and participate in hands-on activities
  • Enjoy live music, food from local vendors, lawn games and family-friendly activities
  • Receive preparedness resources and giveaways

Heavy rain and winter storms can bring flooding, mudflows, power outages and hazardous road conditions with little warning. Community Preparedness Day highlights the importance of preparing ahead of time by understanding local risks, building emergency supply kits, creating household emergency plans and staying informed through official emergency alerts.
