Community Preparedness Day Recap
Last month's Community Preparedness Day was a success!
Here's what our community enjoyed most:
- Saying hello to brush-clearing goats
- Meeting first responders and exploring emergency preparedness booths
- Learning expert strategies for home hardening and defensible space from State, local and non-profit organizations
- Live music, lawn games and food from local vendors

General Plan Update
Community Survey
The City is updating key chapters of its General Plan — Open Space and Recreation, Conservation and Circulation Elements. These updates will help guide how our community preserves natural resources, expands access to parks and recreation and manages mobility in the years ahead.
Your input is essential to shaping a future that reflects our shared values and needs. Take our Community Survey to make your voice heard. The survey will close at the end of the month.
Following the survey, public workshops will be held — more details coming soon!

Compost Giveaway Event
In partnership with Republic Services, the City of LCF will host a Compost Giveaway on Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at One Civic Center Drive.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own buckets (plastic bags and cardboard boxes are not allowed) to collect compost, with a 2-bucket limit in place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Shovels will be provided at the event. Access to the drive-thru queue will be available from Civic Center Drive, off Foothill Boulevard. See you there!

Thanksgiving Day Run
The City and Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge invite you to attend the 32nd Annual Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive on Thursday, November 27, at Olberz Park.
Foothill Boulevard, from Loma Vista Dr. to Gould Ave., will be closed to traffic for the entire duration of the run. This change prioritizes the safety of all involved parties.

Meet Assistant Director of Administrative Services Angela Cho!
The City of LCF is proud to welcome Angela Cho as our new Assistant Director of Administrative Services.
Angela brings over 12 years of municipal government administration, including public information/communications, economic development and special projects. She most recently served as the Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Monrovia.

The Community Development Department is responsible for maintaining and updating the City's General Plan, which guides long-term growth and development. Currently, the department is working on updates to the Open Space and Recreation, Conservation, and Circulation Elements. These updates aim to reflect the community's evolving needs and priorities.

Green Halo
Starting on October 15, the City of LCF will be using Green Halo for Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Management tracking.
Green Halo is a digital platform designed to track and promote recycling and responsible disposal of C&D waste. This ensures that our community is doing its part to reduce environmental impact and support greener building practices.
The City will provide training for contractors and members of the public on Wednesday, October 15 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and on Friday, October 17 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at City Hall's Rose Conference Room (One Civic Center Drive). No RSVP is necessary — just stop by during one of the times listed above.

Fall Clean-Up Week
The City of LCF is holding Fall Clean-Up Week from November 3 to 7. On your regularly scheduled pick-up day, your waste hauler will collect bulky waste placed at the curb free of charge.
Bulky waste items include chairs, sofas, mattresses, carpets and rugs (tied in rolls), appliances, electronics, clothing and tires.
Please box, bundle or bag your loose items so they can be easily handled. Hazardous or toxic items will not be collected. Please consider donating items that are still usable to a local thrift store or charity.

Alert LCF
The City of La Cañada Flintridge can provide emergency alerts by text, email, mobile phone and landline to keep residents informed of urgent threats to life and property in affected areas.
Sign up to receive alerts about severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods and more.

Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween is just around the corner, and the City of La Cañada Flintridge reminds everyone to celebrate safely by:
- Using glow sticks, flashlights or reflective tape to stay visible after dark
- Sticking with family or friends while trick-or-treating — don't go alone
- Ensuring your decorations don't block exits in homes or haunted houses

Trail Etiquette
Take in the fresh fall air on LCF's beautiful outdoor trails!
Whether you're out for a peaceful stroll or a bike ride, our trails offer a refreshing way to spend time outdoors. To help keep them safe and enjoyable for everyone, please keep a few simple tips in mind:
- Stay to the right, and pass on the left when it's safe
- Be extra careful at street crossings
- Leave no trace — dispose of all trash, including glass, paper and plastics

Crime Prevention Month Tips
October is National Crime Prevention Month, and we're committed to keeping La Cañada Flintridge safe and informed.
Check out these simple tips to keep your family safe:
- Know your children's whereabouts and set regular check-in times
- Identify a trusted "safe house" in your neighborhood
- Make sure your children memorize important phone numbers

Traffic Signal Project Lane Closures: Construction has begun on Foothill Blvd (at Verdugo Blvd and La Canada Blvd) and Verdugo Blvd (at Descanso Dr and Alta Canyada Rd), upgrading traffic signals to meet current standards. While lane closures are expected, one lane will remain open in each direction. Residents are advised to use alternate routes where possible. Construction will continue through December 2025.
