In a continued effort to ensure transparency and ease of participation for the community, the City of La Cañada Flintridge will update its public comment procedures to allow for a hybrid format at City Council meetings beginning July 1, 2026. This new approach not only brings the City into compliance with Senate Bill 707 (SB 707) but also expands opportunities for residents to engage in local government from the convenience of their homes.
“Civic engagement is a cornerstone of our community, and we want to make it as easy as possible for residents to share their voices,” said Mayor Kim Bowman. “By offering a virtual option alongside our traditional in-person meetings, we are reinforcing our commitment to transparency and ensuring that everyone has an accessible way to participate in the decisions that shape La Cañada Flintridge.”
Under the updated procedures, residents will have two convenient ways to provide public comments during City Council meetings:
- Virtual Participation (New): Residents may now participate remotely through Zoom. Details for joining will be published directly on each meeting agenda. To speak via Zoom, attendees simply need to use the “raise hand” feature during the designated comment period. Speakers will be called on and prompted to unmute when it is their turn.
- In-Person Participation: Residents can continue to provide comments in person. To speak on any item, attendees must submit a speaker card to the City Clerk. Speakers will be called in the order the cards are received.
These updates promote transparency, accessibility and public participation in local government. The City highly encourages residents to stay informed, attend meetings and share their views on community issues.
