At its April 15 meeting, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved a proclamation to recognize Friday, April 25 as Arbor Day in the City. To celebrate Arbor Day, the City will host a community tree-planting celebration on April 25.

The proclamation highlights the importance of trees in improving air quality, conserving energy, enhancing property values and creating a healthier, more beautiful community. On April 25 at 9 a.m., the City will commemorate the occasion by planting a Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) during a public ceremony at Olberz Park.

“For 36 consecutive years, the City of La Cañada Flintridge has been honored with the prestigious Tree City USA designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation,” said Mayor Michael T. Davitt. “This recognition is a testament to our community’s deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability and the preservation of our natural landscape. Trees are more than just part of our scenery—they are an essential part of our LCF identity, our quality of life and our vision for the future.”

Arbor Day, first proposed in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton, has grown into a global celebration of trees and environmental stewardship. In line with this tradition, the City encourages residents to participate by planting trees and supporting ongoing urban forestry efforts.
