Fire Hardening Vent Rebate Program

The City of La Cañada Flintridge Fire Hardening Vent Rebate Program provides financial assistance to property owners for the installation of ember-resistant vents intended to reduce wildfire risk and improve structure resilience. Eligible properties within La Cañada Flintridge may receive a one-time flat-rate rebate of $500 per property for the purchase, installation, and permitting of qualifying ember-resistant vents. Funding for the program is limited, and rebates will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while funds remain.

To receive the rebate, property owners can complete the following application, permitting, and verification steps:

Property owners must first submit an eligibility application for review of the proposed improvement and to verify property ownership. This step allows the City to confirm that the property qualifies and to reserve rebate funds for the applicant, ensuring that limited program funding is set aside once the process is initiated, provided all required deadlines are met. If funds are all allocated, applicants may be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if additional funds become available.

Once eligibility is confirmed, the applicant will receive an authorization letter via email notifying them to proceed with permitting and installation.

After acceptance into the program, the applicant must apply for a building permit within 30 days. The permit process for this program is streamlined and includes:

Once the permit application is submitted, the City will issue the building permit. Installation of ember-resistant vents may begin only after the permit is issued.

After installation is complete, the homeowner must request a final inspection as part of the building permit process. The inspection confirms that the ember-resistant vents were installed properly and in compliance with building code requirements.

Within 30 days of completing the work, the homeowner must submit a final building permit via the rebate application.

Once all required documentation has been received and verified, the rebate will be approved and processed in accordance with the program.
