Recap: State of the City and District Address

Recap: Earth & Arbor Day Sustainability Celebration
Last month, the LCF community gathered at Olberz Park to commemorate the Earth & Arbor Day Sustainability Celebration.
The event united local agencies, organizations and residents with a shared focus on protecting the planet. Attendees of all ages engaged in eco-friendly activities, including interactive science demonstrations, document shredding and mulch distribution.
The celebration also served as the official kickoff for the 50 Trees for 50 Years initiative, marking a significant milestone in local environmental efforts.

Public Hearings on the
General Plan Update
Community members are invited to help shape the future of LCF by participating in two upcoming commission meetings focused on key updates to the General Plan. These important revisions will guide how the City preserves its natural resources and expands access to local parks.
The Sustainability and Resilience Commission will review the Conservation Element on Tuesday, May 12, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The Parks and Recreation Commission will then discuss the Open Space & Recreation Element on Wednesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

San Gabriel Valley Wildfire Adaptation and Prevention Outreach Program
The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) has introduced Fire Prep SGV, a comprehensive wildfire preparedness initiative.
Through this program, a free home assessment service is now available to La Cañada Flintridge residents.
These evaluations provide community members with expert guidance on identifying vulnerabilities and implementing effective property hardening strategies.

Fiesta Days
The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce is set to host the Annual Fiesta Days celebration from Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25. This beloved tradition celebrates local heritage with family-friendly activities scheduled throughout the weekend.
Community members can look forward to a captivating parade, delicious food, a vintage car show, live music and a dazzling fireworks display. The City, in partnership with public safety agencies, ensures safe festivities.
As part of the festivities, the City and the YMCA of the Foothills will host the Foothills Strong Run on Monday, May 25, starting at 7:30 a.m. at Olberz Park. The annual run will help support families impacted by the Eaton Fire.

June Election Information
The City of LCF will hold its General Municipal Election on June 2, 2026, which is consolidated with the statewide direct primary election conducted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
To support voter access, a Mobile Flex Vote Center will be hosted at LCF City Hall on May 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This resource serves as an extension of a traditional Vote Center. Citizens in LCF will cast their ballots for two open City Council seats, alongside regional and statewide offices.

JPIA Public Safety Academy

Winner Announcement: 50th Anniversary Logo Contest
The City of LCF officially announced the winner of the 50th Anniversary Logo Contest during this week's City Council meeting. Congratulations to Tyler Tasanont for designing an emblem that beautifully captures the community's spirit and the official "Together for 50 Years" theme.
The City extends its gratitude to all the talented residents who submitted their original artwork. The new logo will soon be featured across official communications, promotional materials and special celebration items.

Spring Clean Up Week
The City of LCF is holding Spring Clean-Up Week from May 18 to 22. On your regularly scheduled pick-up day, your waste hauler will collect bulky waste items placed at the curb free of charge.
Bulky waste items include chairs, sofas, mattresses, carpets and rugs (tied in rolls), appliances, electronics, clothing and tires.
Please box, bundle or bag your loose items so they can be easily handled. Hazardous or toxic items will not be collected. Please consider donating items that are still usable to a local thrift store or charity.

Updated Home Hardening Webpage
The City has launched an updated Home Hardening webpage designed to help residents safeguard their properties against wildfires.
This resource focuses on fortifying vulnerable areas to prevent embers, radiant heat and direct flames from igniting structures. The webpage features step-by-step hardening guides, ember-resistant venting information, essential roof and deck safety tips and a new animated educational video.

AlertLCF Test
The City of LCF recently conducted its quarterly test of the AlertLCF Emergency Communications System. This network notifies residents of imminent threats to life and property via landline, mobile phone, text message and email.
Community members are encouraged to verify whether they successfully received the April 20 test notification. Individuals who did not receive the message should register or update their contact information to ensure timely alerts during an actual crisis.

Summer Beach Bus
The City of LCF is thrilled to announce the return of the Summer Beach Bus. In partnership with the County of Los Angeles, this program provides a convenient, round-trip transportation service from Memorial Park to the sunny shores of Santa Monica Beach.
Whether planning a fun family outing or a relaxing day by the ocean, the Summer Beach Bus is your ticket to a perfect beach day without the stress of highway driving and parking.
- Operating Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
- Season Duration: Mid-June through Monday, September 7.

2026 Citywide Miscellaneous Concrete Repairs (CIP 31-2602): As part of the City's annual maintenance program, the City proposes to repair sidewalk, curbs, and gutters that are damaged by traffic or by tree roots or have simply deteriorated due to age or use and repair/install ADA curb ramps throughout the City to meet ADA requirements. Staff completed the Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for the project. On February 17, 2026, the City Council adopted the PS&E and authorized Public Works to advertise the project for construction bids. 13 bids were uploaded to Planet Bids on March 19, 2025. On April 7, 2026, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Gentry Brothers, Inc., in the amount of $222,185, and construction is expected to start May 11, 2026 and to be completed by June 30, 2026.
Foothill Boulevard at Viro Road Traffic Signal Project – (CIP 31-2404): The project consists of removal of the existing flashing beacon crosswalk; installation of new traffic signal equipment and safety lights; removal and installation of a new electrical pedestal and rewiring the intersection; removal and replacement of ADA curb ramps, sidewalk, and curb and gutter; drainage improvements; removal and replacement of asphalt concrete pavement; signage and striping modification. The proposed improvements will upgrade the existing flashing beacon to a traffic signal which will enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists. On December 17, 2024, the City Council awarded a construction contract to PTM General Engineering Services, Inc. On January 23, 2025, a Notice to Proceed was issued to the contractor for the procurement of the materials. A Notice to Proceed for construction was issued to the Contractor on December 11, 2025. Construction started on January 12, 2026. All work has been substantially completed on April 30, 2026. Contractor is addressing the punch list items.
Foothill Boulevard at Oakwood Ave Traffic Signal Project – (CIP 31-2107): The project consists of removal and installation of new traffic signal equipment; removal and installation of a new electrical pedestal and rewiring the intersection; removal and replacement of ADA curb ramps, sidewalk, and curb and gutter; removal and replacement of asphalt concrete pavement; removal and replacement of existing decorative crosswalk; signage; and striping modification. The existing traffic signal equipment is outdated and no longer meets the current Caltrans Standards related to wind and/or seismic events. On January 21, 2025, the City Council awarded a construction contract to DBX, Inc. On February 24, 2025, a Notice to Proceed was issued to the Contractor for the procurement of the materials. A Notice to Proceed for construction was issued to the Contractor on December 16, 2025. Construction started on January 12, 2026. All work has been substantially completed on April 30, 2026. Contractor is addressing the punch list items.
