A Message from Mayor Davitt
Dear Fellow Residents,
Yesterday, the last of our community’s evacuation warnings were lifted, and many of you have returned to your homes. We’re relieved that power has largely been restored across the city, and schools have resumed sessions. We understand this has been a challenging time, and we encourage you to stay vigilant, as winds may return next week. Some fire edges and smoldering within the fire perimeter may continue to produce smoke today, which could affect air quality.
This week, waste haulers are working hard to make extra pick-ups when they can, but next week, they will return to their regular schedule. For excess yard waste, please leave it unbagged next to your green bin or use the large bins available at Rinetti Lane or across the street from Memorial Park. We also encourage residents to consider hiring private tree trimmers and landscapers to help with debris on their property as a result of the wind event. Please note that due to air quality concerns, LA County has temporarily banned leaf blowers to protect public health, and this ban will remain in place until conditions improve.
If waste haulers are unable to collect your debris, city crews will assist. Please be patient, as this may take several days and weeks to come. As we continue to assess the damage, we recommend using private services or filling green waste bins. For safety and accessibility, crews may temporarily move small debris to the curb.

Storm Cleanup Update
[Last Updated 1/15/25, 3:45 P.M.]
A Message from Mayor Davitt
Dear Fellow Residents,
In response to the recent fires, I am pleased to share that the Community Center of LaCañada Flintridge will be hosting a fire relief donation distribution center for those whohave been displaced. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive. Formore information, please visit CCLCF.org/News.
And finally, while we are pleased that residents can now return to their homes and thatpower throughout the city has largely been restored, we ask that you continue to bevigilant. While forecasts vary, it is possible that, after the weather cools and the windsubsides in the coming days, we’ll be facing another wind event next week. Here are some additional reminders about our recovery process as we continue to worktogether through these challenging times:
- Citywide Debris Cleanup and Trash Services: As we all work together to return to normalcy after the recent wind event, cleaning up debris throughout our City and on private properties has become a top priority. We can all help restore safety, beauty, and order to our neighborhoods by taking the necessary steps to remove debris. To assist with this, we’ve outlined the options for debris removal from your private property below. Please take a moment to review them and consider the best course of action for your property. Your efforts not only contribute to the overall recovery but also make a positive impact on our shared community.
- Private Companies: We highly encourage residents who are able to hire private tree trimmers and landscape maintenance companies to address any tree branches and excess debris that may have accumulated on their property as a result of the recent wind event. This option provides a quick, efficient, and reliable way to take care of your property. If your private tree requires attention, please refer to the list of authorized tree trimming companies that are approved to perform work in the area. These companies are experienced and ready to assist with prompt, professional service. Businesses that are not yet licensed in the city but wish to provide services can easily apply for a business license through Connect LCF. By acting now, you can ensure that your needs are handled professionally and that your property remains safe and well-maintained.
- Waste Hauler: Our waste haulers ask that you fill up your waste bins and place them at the curb for collection, regardless of your regularly scheduled pick-up date. Waste haulers are currently making extra rounds to pick up all your waste bins, and this service will continue until the end of the week. While they cannot guarantee the exact timing of your pickup, rest assured that they are actively working to collect waste as quickly as possible. Due to the extra services in impacted areas, the lines at the dump are resulting in delays for pick-up trucks to return to the area. For any excess yard waste that cannot fit in the green waste bin, please leave it next to the bin, unbagged, at the curb. Waste haulers will attempt to collect as much as they can, though please be aware that this is not guaranteed. If you have extra yard waste beyond what can be handled by your green waste bin, there are large waste bins available for drop-off at Rinetti Lane and in the parking lot across from Memorial Park. This provides an easy, alternative option for disposing of your yard waste.
- City Pick-Up: If our waste haulers are unable to collect your excess debris, please rest assured that city crews will be picking it up. However,we want to inform you that there is a significant amount of debris acrossthe city, so if you leave your debris at the curb, it may take serval days for us to collect it, and we will only collecting it until January 24th. We do not have a set schedule at this time, as the City is still assessing the ongoing damage caused by the wind. We strongly encourage residents to continue doing what they can by either hiring private companies or filling up their green waste bins for collection. Your cooperation is key in helping us manage this situation efficiently. In the meantime, we will continue to prioritize clearing debris from the streets to ensure safety and accessibility for all. Please be aware that smaller debris may temporarily be pushed from the street to the curb, as we focus on keeping streets clear for traffic and emergency access. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this challenging cleanup process.
- LA County Ban on Leaf Blowers: In response to hazardous air quality from recent fires and winds, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has temporarily banned the use of leaf blowers and similar air- blowing devices Countywide. This measure aims to protect public health by reducing exposure to ash, smoke, and particulate matter. While this may slow down cleanup efforts, I ask for your understanding and cooperation for the safety of our community. The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve and it is deemed safe to resume use of these devices.
- Utility Services: There is still a potential for Public Safety Power Shutoffs, please continue to use the following resources for information about utilities services throughout the City:
- SCE: http://sce.com/outage-center or call 1(800) 655-4555.
- SoCal Gas: https://www.socalgas.com/fires or call 1(877) 238-0092
- Charter Spectrum: https://www.spectrum.net/support/general/wildfires-ca-power-outages or call 1(888) 438-2427
- Water: There are no concerns regarding the quality of water for our community at this time. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your water company directly.
- Upcoming City Council Meetings: During our regularly scheduled City Council meeting on January 21st, we will include a dedicated discussion item regarding the incident. This will be an important opportunity for residents to share their experiences and provide feedback as we continue to improve and work toward recovery. We encourage all community members to participate and stay engaged throughout this process. Your input is vital as we move forward together.
Again, thank you for your patience.

Storm Cleanup Update
A Message from Mayor Davitt
Dear Fellow Residents,
We know these are incredibly difficult times for many of you, and I want to express our deepest understanding and support. While fire crews continue to work tirelessly to reinforce and maintain containment lines, high winds are expected to persist through early Wednesday morning, raising the risk of spot fires, downed trees, and power lines. Please note that the winds may bring some smoke into our area, and I encourage you all to take extra care and stay indoors if needed. Currently, the air quality in our area is poor.
While we are fortunate that, so far, our community has only been impacted by the winds and not by more severe fire damage, our hearts go out to our neighbors in Altadena and all those affected by these ongoing fires. We stand with them during this challenging time and remain committed to keeping our community safe.
Your safety is our top priority, and we want to provide you with the most up-to-date information as we continue to monitor the situation. Below are the latest updates:
- Evacuation Order Status: There are currently evacuation warnings only near the Starlight Crest, Crown, and JPL. All other zones in the city are clear. Over the past several days, many of us have received a range of emergency notifications on our phones, particularly concerning evacuation notices. These alerts are designed to be life-saving, providing crucial information in times of crisis. However, I recognize how unsettling it can be to receive such a warning, especially if it turns out to be sent by mistake. I ask that we all understand that these systems are not flawless, but do play a critical role in ensuring public safety and should always be taken seriously. In the event that you receive an evacuation notice, you can verify its accuracy before taking any action by visiting protect.genasys.com or by downloading the Protect Genasys app directly to your phone from protect.genasys.com/download. Taking a moment to verify the information can help us all avoid unnecessary panic while ensuring that the community is prepared to act if the situation requires it.
- Citywide Debris Cleanup and Trash Services: As the Red Flag Warnings continue throughout the community, we expect to see more downed trees, fallen limbs, and other debris in our streets that need attention. Our city crews are focusing on clearing roadway debris to ensure safe travel for residents and first responders. I greatly appreciate their dedication, as the ongoing clean-up efforts across the City will take several days to complete. In addition to our city crews working in the roadways, we all have accumulated an extraordinary amount of yard waste on our own properties. As we all work to clean up our homes, our trash haulers will be picking up the unbagged waste we leave at the curb next to the green waste bin. Please place all trash bins and waste at the curb regardless of your standard pick-up day, the haulers are picking up as much as they can. There are additional large waste bins at Rinetti Lane and the parking lot across from Memorial Park where you can drop off extra yard waste.
- Utility Services: The City has been in direct communication with our utility providers, including power, gas, water, and internet. Unfortunately, the City does not have any control over these entities. We have been actively reaching out to get residents the most up-to-date information. We echo your frustrations as we all hope to return to some normality soon. With the potential for another round of Public Safety Power Shutoffs, please see the latest update from the companies and continue to use the following resources:
- SCE: Some areas remain under Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). For the most up-to-date information visit http://sce.com/outage-center or call 1(800) 655-4555.
- SoCal Gas: If you’re experiencing issues turning your gas back on please get in touch with SoCal Gas directly at https://www.socalgas.com/fires or call 1(877) 238-0092
- Charter Spectrum: Charter Spectrum is experiencing outages in sections of the city. Per Charter Spectrum, the outage is due to the Eaton Fire and the impact on their Pasadena nodes, from which part of our community services come. Furthermore, the area’s power outages are impacting the spectrum notes’ power. For more information and updates regarding the outage https://www.spectrum.net/
support/general/wildfires-ca- power-outages or call 1(888) 438-2427 - Water: There are no concerns regarding the quality of water for our community at this time. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your water company directly.
- Flock Safety Cameras: In response to safety concerns surrounding the ongoing incident, I want to inform you that Flock has agreed to deploy additional temporary camera units throughout our community. These cameras are equipped with license plate readers that capture vehicle characteristics and license plates, providing valuable support to our law enforcement efforts. The City is actively working to have these temporary units installed.

A Message from Mayor Davitt
Dear Fellow Residents,
As we continue to face these challenging conditions, I want to reach out once again to remind you that your safety and well-being remain our top priority. While circumstances may feel overwhelming, please know that we are working diligently to keep you informed and supported through this ongoing situation. Together, we will get through this, and I’m here to ensure you have the latest updates and resources as we move forward.
- Weather Conditions: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area through Wednesday, January 15th, at 6 PM due to high winds and dry conditions. I know that many of you are already feeling the effects of these strong winds, especially with the ongoing Eaton Fire. I urge you to remain vigilant and take every precaution to stay safe. Air quality is extremely poor, and we ask that you limit your time outdoors and take steps to protect your health.
- Evacuation Order Status: Firefighters are actively engaged in the defense and protection of the Starlight Crest, Crown, and JPL Zones, so expect to see crews working despite no active fires in the area. Starlight Crest, Crown, and JPL Zones are at an evacuation warning, while the remaining zones are fully lifted. This is a positive step forward, and I know many of you will feel some relief, though I encourage everyone to remain on high alert. With the Red Flag Warning there is a possibility that new evacuation orders will be issued. While we know this is a big ask, please adhere to any changes to evacuation orders as the situation can change quickly. Our Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to implement augmented patrols for looting suppression.
- Power Outage: Southern California Edison has restored power in many areas, but I must also let you know that the entire city is still at risk for another round of Public Safety Power Shutoffs due to the ongoing Red Flag Warning. I understand how difficult this uncertainty can be, and I want to ensure you have the most current information. As a reminder, SCE is its own company outside of the City’s authority, and we unfortunately cannot provide exact information about if or when power may go out or be restored. For the most up-to-date information, visit SCE’s website at http://sce.com/outage-center or call their customer services number at 1 (800) 655-4555.
- Internet Services: We understand that some of you have been experiencing disruptions to your internet service. Internet providers such as Spectrum are independent companies and are regulated at the State level by the Utilities Commission, which means the City does not have authority over their operations. The most recent update we received indicated that the outage was due to damaged lines and power outages caused by the fires affecting LA County. Unfortunately, we have not received further updates from the provider. Please know that we are actively following up with them and will share any new information as soon as we receive it.
- Gas Services: We understand that some of you may have turned off your gas service during the evacuation orders for safety reasons. Please reach out directly to your gas provider to arrange for the restoration of service, they will turn it on once it is safe to do so.
- Water Status: There are no concerns regarding the quality of water for our community at this time. If you have specific questions, please reach out to your water company directly.
- Commercial and Residential Trash Services: Trash services have resumed, and I want to remind everyone to place your bins out, regardless of your regular pickup day. This will help ensure that waste is collected in a timely manner. If you have spoiled food, it can be disposed of in the green waste bin. Additionally, unbagged green waste will be picked up if it is left at the curb. However, please note that bulky debris, such as tree branches or stumps, will not be collected at this time. We also want to remind you that street sweeping will resume on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Your cooperation with these guidelines is greatly appreciated as we continue to work toward restoring normalcy to our community.
- Citywide Debris Cleanup Underway: City crews are working diligently to clear fallen trees and debris from roadways across the community. This is a massive undertaking, with nearly every street needing attention. Cleanup will continue over the next few days and into mid-next week. Please drive cautiously and stay alert for crews in your area.
We are committed to keeping you informed during these challenging times. You can access updates through:

Waste Collection and Street Cleaning Reminder
A Message From Mayor Davitt
Dear Fellow Residents,
We are so pleased that the mandatory evacuation order has been lifted for all of La Cañada Flintridge (although a few areas remain under evacuation “warnings” – see below). We are also pleased that Southern California Edison (SCE) has restored power in many areas.
However, the threat from this wind and fire event is far from over. Winds are forecasted to increase in the coming days, and fire personnel are warning us that dangerous fire weather continues. Moreover, SCE has not ruled out another round “Public Safety Power Shutoff” outages.
So, I urge you to remain safe and vigilant, and the information below should assist you in these efforts. And once again, on behalf of the City, I want to thank everyone who is working around the clock to keep our community safe.
Evacuation Order Status:
- Starlight Crest, Crown, and JPL Zones downgraded to evacuation warning only.
- All other zones in La Canada Flintridge are fully lifted.
Learn more: local.nixle.com/alert/11348851/?sub_id=0
Residents who are returning to their homes, please note the following:
- There are areas in the City that are still without power.
- When driving through the community, please be extremely careful of debris on the road. Please stay clear of any downed power lines or wires.
- Remember, if you come to an intersection without power, please treat it as an all-way stop.
FEMA Representatives in LCF:
FEMA officials will be present at La Cañada Flintridge Library at 4545 N. Oakwood Ave. in La Cañada Flintridge between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, 1/12/25, and Monday, 1/13/25, to assist residents impacted by the wildfires. The phone number is 818-790-3330.
Water Status:
Per the water companies, there are currently no concerns over the quality of water for the community. Please reach out to your water company with any questions you may have.
Commercial and Residential Trash Services:
Due to previous evacuation orders, waste haulers could not service the area earlier in the week. Now that the orders have been lifted, service will resume on Monday. Please ensure your bins are out on Monday, regardless of your regular pickup day.
At the City’s request, the haulers will increase services next week to catch up and will also provide extra debris pickup for green waste. NASA, Republic, and Athens will pick up unbagged green waste if left at the curb. They will not pick up bulking debris such as tree branches/stumps/etc. Street sweeping will resume on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Thank you for being so patient!
Power Outage:
Southern California Edison (SCE) has informed the City that crews are working on restoring full power to the City. As of 3 p.m. on January 11, 2025, 45,450 customers remain without power, while service has been restored to over 500,000 customers since the wind event began. Although this progress is encouraging, we acknowledge the hardships faced by those displaced by the fires and customers still without power. Comprehensive assessments are now underway as conditions allow. On January 10, 85% of circuits outside burn areas were assessed where it was safe to do so, helping to determine the extent of damage and prioritize repair efforts. Repairs are then carried out based on conditions, with restoration times varying depending on the severity of the damage. As repairs are completed, power is first restored to essential services and facilities before being extended to as many customers as safely possible. So far, 2,700 feet of service conductor have been replaced. However, strong winds continue to cause widespread damage, leading to additional outages and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). As of 4:30 p.m. today, approximately 27,100 customers are experiencing service interruptions due to PSPS. Customers affected by the Los Angeles fires can find available resources here.
For the most up-to-date information, visit SCE’s website at http://sce.com/outage-center or call their customer services number at 1 (800) 655-4555.
Citywide Debris Cleanup Underway:
City crews are working tirelessly to remove fallen trees and debris from roadways across the community. With almost every single street needing attention, the scope of this cleanup is massive. Work will continue over the next few days and into mid-next week to ensure our roads are safe and clear.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work as quickly as possible. Please drive carefully and stay alert for crews in your area. Your safety—and theirs—is our top priority!
Weather Conditions:
Although the weather conditions are favorable at the moment. There are new Red Flag and Wind Warnings set to reach the LCF area this weekend into early next week. Please remember with the Eaton Fire still being an active fire, there remains a threat to La Cañada Flintridge.
Air quality is extremely poor, so take precautions to protect your health as much as you can.
Businesses in the City:
Local businesses are starting to return and begin their operations. This will take time and we ask everyone to support our local businesses until they return to normal operation.
Businesses are allowed to operate normally if they are not in the mandatory evacuation area.

We are dedicated to keeping you informed. Updates are being shared regularly on the City’s website, LCF.CA.gov/EatonFireUpdate, via email (Subscribe here: bit.ly/47OQZkw) and through our social media platforms, @TheCityOfLCF (Instagram and X) and @City of La Cañada Flintridge (Facebook).

Dear Fellow Residents,
Los Angeles County continues to endure devastating fires, bringing tragedy and hardship to many. While La Cañada Flintridge has avoided fire damage thus far, our community has faced many challenges, including a citywide evacuation order, power outages, falling trees and debris.
The City’s Emergency Operations Center is activated and we are committed to keeping you informed. Updates are being shared regularly on the City’s website,
https://lcf.ca.gov/
Here is the current Eaton Fire situation that remains highly fluid and subject to change:
- The fire is at 3% containment.
- 13,956 acres burned
- There continues to be no active fires within La Canada Flintridge from Eaton Fire.
- Preliminary estimates are 4,000-5,000 structures burned (none in LCF).
- An evacuation order remains in effect for all of La Cañada Flintridge. More than 100,000 people in the area are under mandatory evacuation orders.
- Current evacuation orders are reviewed by County OEM based on current and future conditions including weather, fire movement and operational tactics. The City is obligated to follow such orders until they are lifted.
- Southern California Edison continues to have power out throughout the City. As an independent utility company, the City has no authority/oversight over SCE. However, the City continues to work closely with SCE urging them to establish a plan and timeline to restore power. Safety remains our top priority.
- Current wind advisory and the existing Red Flag and Wind Warnings continue to threaten the community, potentially impacting the Eaton Fire.
- Air quality is extremely poor, so take precautions to protect your health as you are able.
- The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is using maximum enforcement to safeguard our City, residents and property. This includes establishing checkpoints to control traffic to and from the City.
- We are actively working with County and State officials to secure aid and identify recovery options.
- Although City Hall remains closed for in-person services, staff are tirelessly working remotely and can be reached by phone or email to assist.
I want to thank our first responders, emergency personnel and everyone working to contain this fire. The support from the community has been incredible and I ask that everyone continue to follow evacuation orders and stay informed. Together, we will make it through this crisis, safely. Updates will be provided regularly and promptly if conditions change.
Stay safe and take care.
