As part of ongoing efforts to enhance community resilience and response during wildfire season, the City of La Cañada Flintridge is hosting a series of workshops on emergency preparedness and to discuss its proposed Red Flag No Parking Program. Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more about being prepared for an emergency and provide feedback on the proposed program, which is designed to improve evacuation routes and first responder access in high-risk fire areas.

The City will provide three workshop opportunities for residents to participate, each featuring a representative from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) and City of La Canada Flintridge. Each workshop will contain the same content:

  • Workshop #1 – Monday, March 25, 6:00 p.m. at Lanterman Auditorium or via Zoom
  • Workshop #2 – Sunday, April 7, 6:00 p.m. at Paradise Canyon Elementary or via Zoom
  • Workshop #3 – Monday, May 12, 6:00 p.m. at Palm Crest Elementary or via Zoom

“The Red Flag No Parking Program was developed in response to past wildfire events, which underscored the critical need for clear roadway access during emergencies,” said Mayor Davitt. “Public participation is key to refining this program and ensuring it aligns with community needs and concerns.”

A Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service when extreme fire weather conditions—such as sustained winds of 25 mph or greater and humidity below 15%—are expected within 24 hours. As La Cañada Flintridge is located in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, ensuring safe evacuations and rapid emergency response is a top priority.

Under the proposed program, street parking restrictions will be determined by the following parameters:

  • Collector streets, regardless of width, are restricted on both sides.
  • Streets with widths less than 30 feet are restricted on both sides.
  • Streets with single points of access are restricted on either the ingress or egress side.
  • Potential evacuation streets that require two-way traffic flow are restricted on either the ingress or egress side.

The City urges residents to attend a workshop, ask questions and share their thoughts on the program. For more information about the Red Flag No Parking initiative and upcoming workshop details, please visit: LCF.ca.gov/RedFlagInfo.
