On November 16, 2021, the City Council adopted a Resolution to join the AARP’s Age-Friendly Program. An Age-Friendly Community Project Team was formed by the City and consisted of nine voting and two non-voting members. The team met regularly from 2022 to 2025 to discuss “domains of livability” to develop an Age-Friendly Master Plan. This plan aims to improve the lives of La Cañada Flintridge residents of all ages.
Based on recommendations from the AARP’s Age-Friendly Program, the Project Team identified seven livability domains relevant to our community: (1) Communication and Information, (2) Public Safety, (3) Community Engagement, (4) Housing, (5) Transportation, (6) Outdoor Space and Buildings, (7) Health Services and Community Support. The Project Team progressed through each domain which involved analyzing community survey results, identifying existing resources and policies, recommending possible solutions, and identifying barriers to those solutions. The work and recommendations regarding each of these domains are now compiled in an Age-Friendly Master Plan.
The Age-Friendly Community Project Team held its final, formal meeting on May 8, 2025 to review the Age-Friendly Master Plan. The Plan is the result of over three years of work by the Project Team who dedicated many hours to thoughtful research and discussion. The Project Team then presented an update to the Parks and Recreation Commission on June 11, 2025, and the Plan was approved by the City Council on August 19, 2025.
