City of La Cañada Flintridge Approves No Parking During Red Flag Warnings Program

November 20th, 2025|

At its regularly scheduled meeting on November 18, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved a “No Parking During Red Flag Warnings” program on select streets in the City, following community town hall discussions held earlier this year. Similar to programs adopted by Pasadena in 2009 and Los Angeles in 2006, La Cañada Flintridge will restrict parking on select streets when the National Weather Service determines there is a combination of dry fuels and weather conditions that support extreme fire danger.

Key restrictions include:

  • Major Collector Streets: No parking on both sides, regardless of street width
  • Streets under 30 feet wide: No parking on both sides
  • Streets with a single point of access: No parking on one side (ingress or egress)
  • Potential evacuation routes requiring two-way traffic: No parking on one side (ingress or egress)

“This program is the result of more than a year of collaboration with first responders and broad community engagement. It represents a critical investment in the safety of our residents,” said Mayor Kim Bowman. “Public safety remains our number one priority, and this is an important step in readying our community in case of an emergency.”

When Red Flag Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service, the City will use multiple channels to notify residents when a warning is in effect, including:

  • The City website
  • Social media
  • Pre-recorded Voice Message
  • Mass notifications through AlertLCF (email/text)

The program was developed in coordination with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and traffic engineers, and the designated streets will be refined prior to implementation and continually reassessed. Additional adjustments to the number, spacing, and cost of signage will be brought back to the City Council to ensure effectiveness. The City Council emphasized that this initiative will return for continued evaluation, including collaboration with local schools and efforts to provide proper education to the community regarding the program.

To learn more about the program and to view the full map of streets affected by the program, please visit the City’s No Parking During Red Flag Warning Program webpage.

Turkey Safety Tips

Did you know that cooking is the leading cause of holiday home fires? With all the hustle and bustle, it's easy to overlook safety.

Keep these tips in mind:

  • Thaw your turkey safely in the fridge or cold water (never at room temperature)
  • Keep an eye on your turkey while it cooks — never leave it unattended
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 165°F
  • If frying, always do it outdoors on a flat surface, away from anything flammable

Let's keep the season safe and delicious!

Holiday Safety Tips

The holiday season brings joy — and sometimes, opportunity for crime.

Keep your celebrations bright and your belongings safe with these simple tips:

  • Schedule deliveries for times you'll be home to receive packages
  • Stay alert while shopping — put your phone away and keep valuables close
  • Park in well-lit areas and keep items out of sight
  • Bring gifts inside right away — don't leave them in your car

The City of La Cañada Flintridge wishes all residents a safe and merry holiday season!
